Topstyler is not the "Top" Styler

You would think after falling for the RevoStyler (rotating brush), the shampoo that is not a shampoo, but a cleansing conditioner and a few other failed finds.....I would learn my lesson! No, not me! One late night I was sucked into yet another infomercial, The Topstyler. The new hot rollers of the future....but the are not rollers!!! They are these clever little "C-shells", ceramic clips that curl and cool your hair. The result being a beautiful curl that lasts all day!!!! Bouncy, full of body...just like a hair care product commercial! So they promised....

Ulta sent me a 20% off any one item coupon, so my wheels started turning and headed over to ULTA.COM to see what I must have and couldn't live without. WAAAAAA!!!!!! The Topstyler was at Ulta! With 5 extra "C-shells" included! I jumped in my car and headed over with hubby in tow......

When I arrived, I went straight to the back, knowing that is where they keep their hairstyling tools, I hardly ever visit Ulta, right ;) The sign was there, but no more Topstylers...Boooo!!! I had to have one now, so I asked the sweet girl walking by to check in the back for me. She came out within minutes holding my desired treasure :) Bought it...went home...plugged it in.

So, with this particular hair setter, you pin curl your hair and clamp the heated clip over the curl....took about 10 minutes. Let it set for 25 minutes, making sure that my hair was cooled. My result???????

Poofy, uncurled frizzy hair! Ahhhhh!!!!!! I did everything right!!!!!

In the infomercial they showed this being used on every kind of hair...fine, thick, medium, curly, ethnic...all!!!! My hair is thick, but not coarse or hard to manage. It honestly does get hot enough to do the job.....I am back to my faithful curling iron...why did I ever stray????

Needless to say, it went back to Ulta :)

Free Katy Show - Updated Info

Looks like all the tix are gone...sadly I never received code, so I wasn't in on the craziness on ticketmaster at 10am today.

This is the info I have been given so far :

Staples Center is allowing Katy Cats to start lining up at 9am on Figueroa! Looks like people with GA tix are not gauranteed a seat, it is first come first served. So for fans coming from far away lands...you should plan on either coming out the night before and staying in a hotel or leaving very early the morning of :)

GA seats are not in the PIT or FLOOR section...these are up in the 300 section and are GA, no assigned seats. This is probably due to the fact they they gave out more tix than seats available to ensure a packed house for the DVD filming.

If you have a ticket with designated section, row and seat...you are in for sure :)

So if you have a designated seat or Floor ticket, you probably do not need to line up at 9am...but for those of you who received GA anything...get there early and bring a snack.....

Congrats to everyone who gets in! I honestly do not think I would wait in line at 9am, but I have seen the show already and may even score some over priced tix for the 22nd ;)~

Enjoy Katy Cats!!!! I can't wait to see the DVD :)

Katy Gives Thanks - Free Show Updated Info

There seems to be major confusion out there in Katyland! Katy Cats are hissing and scratching on facebook...and yes I am one of them! Codes went out this morning...I didn't get one :( Those that did,  received an email that stated tix would be available today at 10am....but that was not the case!

This is the new email received :

We are thrilled to tell you that your invitation has arrived for a chance to join Katy Perry at the STAPLES Center on Wednesday, November 23rd for "Katy Perry Gives Thanks" has arrived! The passes are available promptly at 10am PT tomorrow - Friday November 18th, first come - first served.

So, I hope this helps everyone who received a code :) And for those who didn't, myself included, don't hold it against Katy...she loves her fans and did a free show to prove it! She could have easily sold this show out!

Have fun! I went to her show in Santa Barbara ( I live in LA) and it was amazing! You will have the best time!!! My daughter and I had pit tix, so we were up close and personal with Katy :)

Keep following my blog, I will be posting pics of the SB Katy show...you can join by email up top!

Blog by Request : My Favorite Mascara...L'Oreal's Voluminous Carbon Black

I asked my friends on Facebook to help me out with my next blog. My beautiful and sweet friend Cindy Corona requested my favorite mascara :) You are all probably expecting some super hard to find, wait list requiring, right arm costing, made of rare minerals from a rain forest in Atlantis mascara.....but my fav is easily found at any drugstore, usually on sale and does not require any surgical handy work to remove appendages for payment.

At a average of $6, you can get what almost every MUA has in their kits....L'Oreal Voluminous Mascara! There are many different formulations, my fav being Carbon Black in waterproof or non-waterproof. Does not clump, smudge or flake. Creates volume and length and if you get Carbon Black....it is super duper dark!

When working on clients, I tend to use a different mode of application. As all my students know, I am a huge fan of the fan brush (pun fully intended!). Simply take the wand out of the tube and brush the product onto a stainless steel palette. Dip your small fan brush (can be found at craft or art stores for $3) into the mascara and brush the product onto the top and bottom of your upper lashes. This brush is so thin that you can actually get right up to the lash line without smudges! For your bottom lashes simply swipe the brush back and forth, instead of up and down :) Makes a huge difference in volume and length. Plus you keep your mascara from accumulating unfriendly amoeba's and it will last longer :)

FYI....Make-up Artists use this mascara so often, that it is actually sold in pro make-up shops for $12.99!!!!

Enjoy!!!

E.L.F.'s New Holiday 144 Color Palette

Beauty on a budget just got better! During one of my many meant to be quick trips to Target, I aimlessly stumbled upon E.L.F.'s new holiday collection, so conveniently stacked at the front end of the beauty aisle. As I walked by, totally meaning to skip the beauty section ;) I couldn't help but just notice the sheer size of this thing! Having used their eyeshadows before, I of course had to get a closer look. Now, as a MUA, I have a responsibilty, a moral obligation really, to purchase and review for all beauty obsessed colleagues, friends and family, right? I agree...so I did and I have used it everyday for a week to do a few different looks and test out pigmentation and so on.....

Now, I use many high end products and drugstore products as well. Some from each category have failed me. This palette however really impressed me. I never use eyeshadows without a primer, so I do not have an opinion on using them alone.

So with all that said....I absolutley love them! For $15 (I got mine 10% off at Target, so it was $13.50), you get 144 eyeshadow colors that honestly measure up to some high end and professional products I have used. With primer, they lasted all day and into the night.

This would be a great budget friendly gift for any lady in your life, whether she is a pro or not :)

You can get it at Target, or at http://www.eyeslipsface.com/

You can request a product review by posting a comment below or emailing me at makeupbyjennb@gmail.com

Obsession Make-Up Academy and KC by Yuko team up at Art In Motion!

Saturdays Art in Motion Event was one of the most amazing experiences I have had as a Make-Up Artist. Meeting and working with Yuko Koach and her team was the highlight of my night. What talent! Not only is she phenomonal at hair art, she is one of the kindest and humble artists I have ever worked with. With her lists of accomplishments, I was just blown away at how down to earth she really is. As an associate of Obsession Make-Up Academy, she is someone I will get to work with in the future and for that I am very thankful :)

I am so proud of my OMA girls for not only taking time out of their busy schedules to be there all day and night, but for their gorgeous work they accomplished. Below, are a few photos of our work.
